Sunrise Center Inc. is dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals in need — with a special focus on vulnerable and at-risk cats. We work tirelessly to provide compassionate care, essential medical treatment, and safe shelter until each animal finds a loving forever home. Through community outreach, education, and advocacy, we strive to reduce pet overpopulation, promote responsible pet ownership, and build a more humane future for animals in our care and beyond.

Meet our Founder: Karen Hemza
|
Karen is the owner of Sunrise Farms Stables and the president of Sunrise Center Therapeutic Riding. She works to provide access to spay/neuter services, pet food distribution, and supportive care for feral cats. Her commitment to provide intervention and rehabilitation for pets in need is the backbone of Sunrise Center Animal Rescue.
Karen firmly believes that the solution to unwanted and discarded pets is access to low-cost spay/neuter services and devotes her time to making that a reality in Kankakee County. Karen is an expert in the fields of horse husbandry and training. With her guidance, we will be expanding our scope to include horse rescue into our program. Karen also teaches Therapeutic Riding.
